Furniture designer and artist Michael Beitz has had works showcased in numerous museums, including the Montana Gallery in Barcelona, The Design Museum in London, and the Juxtapoz Clubhouse Gallery in Miami. Michael Beitz is best known for combining aspects of contemporary art with modern furniture design.
One of his pieces, the Anvil Picnic Table, was created for a small mountain town near Boulder, Colorado, called Jamestown. Inspired by the local tradition of shooting an anvil into the sky on the Fourth of July, Mr. Beitz created the table in collaboration with local artists, students, and residents of Jamestown.
After the 2013 floods in Boulder County, which had a profound impact on Jamestown, a private funding source helped to facilitate the creation of the table, which provided the town with a functional piece of art to help the community heal. The Anvil Picnic Table was unveiled on May 21, 2018, and it sits in Elysian Park in the center of Jamestown.
